Rod Serling-Related Program at GFJ October 7
Special October Program: Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7 PM in the library’s Scott Meeting Room: Noted author, underwater archaeologist and Endicott native Joseph Zarzynski will present a program titled “Assault on the Maritime Zone: Rod Serling’s Movie Screenplay of a Jack Finney Novel.” A 1969 graduate of Union-Endicott High School, Mr. Zarzynski is a maritime historian and underwater archaeologist, and was a student of Binghamton native Rod Serling. In 1966 Paramount Pictures released the movie “Assault on a Queen.” Rod Serling wrote the screenplay for the movie. The Hollywood film has been described as an “Ocean’s Eleven-style caper,” but with a maritime theme. The lecture will examine the high-seas drama from a serial publication, to novel, and then to a star-studded Hollywood movie. The lecture will put the screenplay and movie into a broader perspective, discuss Rod Serling’s occasional voyages into “The Maritime Zone,” and cover his writings and narration of oceanic-related productions. Free to all, capacity 90.
